REVIEW: MY THOUGHTS AND HIGHLIGHTS ON THE NOVEL "ADULTERY" BY PAULO CEOHLO

Hey Readers,
Adultery by Paulo Ceohlo

The novel "ADULTERY" is a mind dissecting and thought provocating book; which meddles beyond what it's title literarily reads buh takes an unsophisticated approach into knowing the human emotions. The author also plunge on the psychological motivations that drives various human desire and emotions. Adultery is an insightful read, tho' the ending of the book poses a mind exhausting feeling on some readers and others a feeling of lividness because the common notion and rules guiding actions and consequences tends to be nonexistential.
The protagonist of Adultery, Linda a young respected woman and journalist in her thirties, happily married with loving children to a nice, caring and understanding husband, life turns around. Having all the fortunates of life any human would love to have. Exhausted by the feeling of boredom of what her life has become, the daily routine of going to work, playing her role as a loving and caring mother and wife, she dives and gradually spirals into a state of sadness and depression everyday by day. During her attempt to combat this sudden feeling of sadness, her part crossed with an old time romance, a longtime high school boyfriend named Jocab Konig_Jocab now a stateman, married to a rather strict, over-suspicious and jealous wife. Her encounter with Jocab sparked and overwhelmed her with impulses and urges that have been buried for years, she rattle on a treacherous path she never dreamt of taking. Starting a romantic affair between her longtime romance tends to her as a coping mechanism to ease herself of the boredom and the feeling of sadness haunting her and once a again finding happiness. With her new found happiness, she was determined to keep her relationship secret and protect her family from the woman she has now become. Confronted by reality that her affair with Jocab can only be temporary and will not desolve her feeling of sadness but only bring her to destabilising her comfortable home and the feeling of guilt for not being faithful and loyal to her loving husband and children. The unextinguishable love of her husband and his understanding gradually brings her back to stability and once more find a purposeful reason to live.

Wow, what an interesting read, you honestly need to read this mind bamboozling and fascinating book.

My thoughts and highlights from the Book
This are some thoughts about the Novel and I also highlighted some stuff amidst my read which I will like to share with you

My Thoughts:
1. The novel talks about Linda feeling of sadness and depression despite having a comfortable life and all the goodies of life.
As individuals in this age  we are confronted with the notion or thought that a new phone or latest gadgets, buying a new car, getting married or proposed to, an increase in our paycheck, shopping for new clothes and shoes, eating at a fancy restaurant or getting a new job will somehow fill the emptiness within us, better said, bring us this happiness we seek. True, all this aforementioned stuff will bring us a certain amount of joy or happiness but with time the joy or happiness would inevitably fade away and sooner we would seek more of the stuff we already have. Obviously, happiness is not about having all the comforts of life but rather comes from gratification of the little we have and knowing comfortability or having it all won't bring any more  happiness.

2. Also, we should be careful of desires and choices, they could ruin our life's and the ones we love.

My Highlights:

HIGHLIGHT ONE:
✓  "Why is Love more important than Faith?Because Faith is merely the road that leads us to the Greater Love. Why is Love more important than Charity? Because Charity is only one of the manifestations of Love. And the whole is always more important than the part. And Charity is also only one of the many roads that Love uses to bring man closer to his fellow man. And we all know that there is a lot of Charity out there without Love.."

✓  "I ask all those who hope to one day work for the good of humanity: never forget that even if you deliver up your body to be burned, you gain nothing if you have not Love. Nothing!"

This part or page of the book talks about love and how we should express it; it defines that we can give or be charitable and not know what love is. Moreso love does not measure its extent by its charity acts; because it was done out of love.

 HIGHLIGHT TWO:
✓  "During the ice age, many animals died of cold, so the porcupines decided to band together to provide one another with warmth and protection. But their spines or quills kept sticking into their surrounding companions, precisely those who provided the most warmth. And so they drifted apart again. And again many of them died of cold. They had to make a choice: either risk extinction or accept their fellow porcupines’ spines. Very wisely, they decided to huddle together again. They learned to live with the minor wounds inflicted by their relatives, because the most important thing to their survival was that shared warmth." This part tells use to endure our difference and learn to live with it with love"

HIGHLIGHT THREE
✓  "What kills a relationship between two people is precisely the lack of challenge, the feeling that nothing is new anymore. We need to continue to be a surprise for each other."

HIGHLIGHT FOUR
✓  "YOU don’t choose your life; it chooses you. There’s no point asking why life has reserved certain joys or griefs, you just accept them and carry on. We can’t choose our lives, but we can decide what to do with the joys or griefs we’re given."

HIGHLIGHT FIVE
✓  When we love someone, we’re not satisfied with knowing only the person’s soul—we also want to understand the person’s body. Is it necessary? I don’t know, but instinct encourages us. There is no set time for it to take place, no rules to follow.

Honestly, I tried to streamline my words but the least I can go is this and I really don't want to bore you, I'm so so sorry. I strongly suggest you take your time to read this book.

Your comments on my highlight and thought will be really appreciated_ On to my next read, can't wait to share it with you all.

Thank you all.
